GCS Grades 3 and 4

The Adventures of Mrs. Bouter's Class

School’s in, and we’re off to a great start!

We had a wonderful day on Friday celebrating our Back to School Olympic Theme.  Miss Farrer’s class did and awesome job organizing our fun.

Our new Monday-Friday schedule will take effect this week, so students will be participating in music, library, gym, French, computer, art, and drama. We are thrilled to have Mrs. Thorne teaching science to our class for the first and last quarters of the year.   This being our first week, our only test will be our List 1 Spelling Test, which will take place on Friday for both grades.  Please ensure that the children are prepared for this by studying their lists each night.  This is an excellent time of year to establish great study and homework habits!

I am looking forward to hearing about and seeing all the wonderful treasures in the “Me” In a Bag projects that went home last Thursday!  What a great way to start our Monday 🙂

Have a fantastic week.  See you at the Parent Information Night, Tuesday, September 11th at 7 pm.  This is an important night to connect with our school’s leadership and catch the vision for the new school year.

News and Notes!

We had a fabulous time celebrating the 100th birthday of the OREO cookie yesterday!  What great fun to share the excitement with Mrs. Perry’s kindergarten class.

Tomorrow’s Knight Light’s rehearsal will be cancelled for tomorrow afternoon.  We will continue with lunch time sectionals, and will meet again next Thursday afternoon.  Those children who offered to bring snacks for the end of our rehearsal can do so next week.

Next week, our entire school will be participating in Winter Carnival Events.  Here are the details for the elementary school:

Monday, March 12th            PAJAMA DAY

Tuesday, March 13th            TWIN DAY

Wednesday, March 14th      SKIING AT BROOKVALE

Thursday, March 15th          SUPERHERO DAY

Friday, March 16th               GREEN DAY,  SKATING AT SIMMONS

This is a wonderful week for our students, and participation is strongly encouraged.  We ask the children to be creative with their costumes, to avoid spending money on this.  Have fun planning, and happy tickle-trunking!

Also, next week, we may have a guest student visiting our class for the week.  She and her family are visitng Prince Edward Island.  Let’s make her feel welcome and at home in our classroom!

New Week – January 16th-20th

Welcome to another week in Grades 3 & 4.

Congratulations to all of our spellers for a job well done on Friday!  We’re so proud of our very own  Mitchell Schut, 1st place Junior Division champ, and David Sider, runner up in the  Junior Division.  Well done, boys :). After an amazing 44 rounds of spelling in the senior division, Hannah McGonnell won the GCS bee this year. She’ll be respresenting our school at the provincial spelling bee in February.  Wonderful work!

STORM DAYS: Remember to listen to the local radio station in the morning regarding school cancellations due to weather. We follow the Eastern School District for closures.

Should there be a delay in the opening of school, please remember that teachers will not be at the school to supervise children until an hour before school is to begin.

Here are the details for the week of January 16th-20th.  Please ensure that you read this for information regarding special events and projects going on in our classroom.

Welcome back to a brand new school year!  I trust you’ve had a relaxing, unhurried time to enjoy your families.

We will be beginning recorder in the next week.  Students will be borrowing recorders from the school, and each will be assigned an instrument with a number.  Students will need to carry these back and forth from school, so cases are recommended. If you would like to purchase one on your own, please let me know as I can purchase them at a discounted price.  Students in Grade 4 may also have the opportunity to begin the Alto recorder.

Percussion ensemble will be beginning next week on January 12th.  We have two projects that we will be beginning in this new year: preparing for the QUEENS COUNTY MUSIC FESTIVAL as well as preparing a rendition of “O Canada”  for a national competition sponsored through Long and McQuade.  New members are welcome in the month of January, but membership will be closed after Jan. 31st.

The Grade Fours will be beginning work on their first research project on Alexander Graham Bell.  I will be sending home more information later on this week.

Psalm 62 Attached is  a copy of the next set of verses we will be learning this month.  Each student will have a copy of this at school in their Bible notebooks as well.

Last Full Week of School Begins!

It is hard to believe, but we are entering our last full week of school before the holidays.  As much as possible, please try to maintain nightly reading and homework routines, as we will continue regular testing until the end of the week.

There will be an extra rehearsal for the Knight Lights on Monday, December 12th, from 3-4 pm.  This is to ensure that we are ready for the upcoming concerts.  This will be in addition to our Thursday practise, which will be held upstairs in the sanctuary.  For all new members, I have ordered t-shirts which will arrive on Wednesday (phew!!!).  Please send in $10.00 for these as soon as possible.

Our Class party will be held on Tuesday morning, December 20th.  I will be purchasing candy for the decorating of a nativity scene.  There will be a $3.00 charge for this, so  please send this with your children by Wednesday, December 14 th.  Any “nutritious” treats you’d like to send in for our party (crackers/cheese, clementines, fruit, muffins, etc.) would be greatly appreciated.  Junk food is also accepted 🙂

You’ll find our newsletter attached below.  Please be sure to read it carefully for extra details and information regarding our Christmas concert.

Welcome December!

This week, we will continue to practise for our Christmas musical, “The Signs of Christmas”.  Your children have brought home small speaking parts that they will need to have memorized as soon as possible.  Thank you for your support in this. We will be presenting this musical again for the residents of the Prince Edward Home on Thursday, December 15 at 10:30am.   Drivers will be needed.

Miss Farrer’s class will be sponsoring a family this Christmas, and in support of this outreach, they will be hosting two events this week:  a BAKE SALE on Tueday and a HOT DOG SALE on Friday.  Wednesday’s hot lunch option is PIZZA.

Forms will be sent home for these events at the beginning of the week.

Register for the school SPELLING BEE by downloading this form:

Deadline for entry is December 16th.
