Science and Technology Week

It’s that time of year when we celebrate our Creator God and the wonder of science! We have a full week of activities planned. Pay special attention to Tuesday as it is Dress like a Scientist Day. That means that your child can come to school dressed as a person in any occupation that would use science. It’s a whole lot of nerdy fun! Take a look at the schedule below. Bolded events are things that the grade 3/4 class will participate in.

  • Mon., Oct. 24th           Engineering in Space: Making Comets (K – Gr. 4)
  • Mon., Oct. 24th             Engineering:  Water for the World Project (Gr. 5 – 12)
  • Tues., Oct. 25th             Chopped Design Challenge (Gr. 1/2)
  • Tues., Oct. 25th           Dress Like a Scientist Day (K – Gr. 12)
  • Wed., Oct. 26th             Grade 12 Physics Demonstrations (K & Gr. 5/6)
  • Wed., Oct. 26th             Future City Competition – Submission of Project #1
  • Thurs., Oct. 27th           3D Product Design (Gr. 5/6)
  • Thurs., Oct. 27th         Periodic Table of Elements – Cookie Display (K – Gr. 12)
  • Fri., Oct. 28th               Edible Human Skeletons (Gr 3/4)
  • Fri., Oct. 28th                Guest Speaker: Engineering – Jonathan Barrett (Gr. 10)

This is just a sneak peek at Science & Technology week at GCS.  Students will also participate in themed art and music classes, as well as Bible classes that focus on the Creator of all things science!  Be sure to check out our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.  We love to see these posts shared, liked, and retweeted!!!

Family Picture for French

Mrs. Laird is asking that students in her French class take a family picture to school for this coming Tuesday. Students have already recorded this in their agendas but a blog reminder never hurts!

Social Studies Test

Please keep your students studying the provinces as they will need to know them for the upcoming test on this Friday. This test is for everybody! ESL students will need to be able to identify the location and names of the provinces. Non-ESL students will also need to study the spelling of the names of the provinces as this is part of their spelling list.

UPEI Fitness Research

This Thursday, the University of Prince Edward Island will be doing fitness testing with the grade 3/4 class for their research on the level of physical fitness in Canadian children. Students will be doing physical activity for an hour, so please ensure that they have proper gym clothes, running shoes, and a water bottle.

School Pictures

Say cheese! School pictures will also take place this coming Thursday. No need to worry: we will be having pictures taken BEFORE getting sweaty during fitness testing. Be sure to bring your best smiles!
