A Short Week
Are you wondering why your students do not have school this Thursday & Friday? Grace Christian School teachers are on their way to the annual Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Teachers Conference. It is a time when the teachers can learn some new teaching techniques, interact with other teachers across Canada to discuss what is positively enhancing their classrooms, see some of the most up to date technology and classroom strategies, and recharge their commitment as Christian school educators. The teachers greatly benefit from this conference and so will their students.
However, even though there is no school, there are still spelling words to practice (see information below) and a Bible verse to review! Help your children be prepared by keeping their minds sharp even on the days off.
Fall Party – Change of Plans
For our annual Fall Party, the elementary classes will be travelling to Anne and Lee Laird’s farm on Wednesday, October 19th. Note that we have made a change to the time that we will be leaving. We will now be leaving the school by 9:30 to arrive at the farm for 10:00 am. We will enjoy a barbecue, a hayride, and some good old-fashioned games. Students are encouraged to dress up as cowgirls and cowboys, or any variety of country bumpkin. Please be mindful of the weather as it is getting colder this time of year and have your child dress accordingly. We will leave the farm at 1:00 pm to be back at the school for 1:30.
We are also looking for parents to help out with the food for the BBQ. Each class has been assigned an item to bring. We are asking Grade 3/4 parents to supply drinks for this year’s party.
Additionally, we will be able to travel by bus, but it cannot hold all of our students. If you are available to drive, then please indicate how many students you can take on the permission form. A new form will be sent home with your child on Monday.
Thanks in advance!
Skipping a Spelling List and Then Combining with Social Studies
As this is a short week, there will be no spelling test. However, we will be having a combined Social Studies and Spelling Test on the provinces the following week. We will cover the provinces in class and review them every day, but students will need to study at home in order to do well. There is a study sheet in the spelling folder which looks exactly like the test that students can use to study. Please note that this is SPELLING LIST 7. We’re actually going to skip List 6 as, for some odd reason, the weeks are not aligning well with the themed lists this year.
