Our Wetland Adventure… Without the Intense Wet!

Our Wetland Field Trip

The grade 3-4 class had an awesome day getting down and dirty with wetland wildlife! We went “critter dipping” with nets and found some interesting invertebrates like diving beetles and the larva of damselflies and caddisflies. Then we went on a nature walk with binoculars and discovered lots of different birds like redwing blackbirds, yellow warblers, tree swallows, and even a Canadian goose. Check out some of the pictures below. A big thank you to the parents who drove and were flexible enough that we could change the date of the field trip last minute. It was so much nicer without the rain!

Yearbook Order

Last week, the students had a sneak-peek of the grade 3-4 page in GCS’s very first student-designed yearbook and boy, did it ever look great! The order forms for yearbook are due on May 31, but as this will be Sunday, they will have to be returned to the school by Friday, May 29.

EPIC Cheer-leading Show

Mark your calendars!  On Monday, June 1, from 5:00 – 6:00 PM, the EPIC cheerleaders will be hosting their annual show which will showcase all their hard work from throughout this school year. They will also be selling candy during the event. More information will be sent home with each cheerleader this week.

Track and Field

The grade 3-4 class will all be travelling to UPEI for the annual Track and Field Meet on Tuesday, June 2. Students will be spending the day there, so be sure they are prepared with a lunch that can be eaten outside, water, running shoes, their GCS Fun Run shirt (a bright blue shirt would be good if they do not have one of these), sunscreen, and maybe even a blanket (sometimes it gets cold!). Be on the lookout for a permission form with more information coming soon.

Summer Reading Program

Later this week, students will be sent home with reading logs to track their summer reading.  When school is dismissed for the summer, although the assigned reading may not continue, it is our hope that the love of reading will.  Students are strongly encouraged to read each day for a minimum period of 20 minutes.  In September, 10 students will be awarded gift cards to Indigo for their efforts.  Please make sure to make additional copies of the reading log. Contact me if your child has lost his or hers and I can give you one to copy.
