Well, first of all, I think I’m going to have to officially say that Sunday will have to be my day to update the blog. I have tried to write my posts on Friday these past two weeks, but getting the lesson plans and general lay-out of the week finalized before leaving school on Friday afternoon is certainly a challenge! I do apologize to anyone looking for updates before now and not finding them.
Secondly, I hope you enjoyed this glorious day God granted us with! It is nice to have a lingering taste of summer this time of year. 🙂
Here is some information about upcoming events to be on the lookout for:
Grade Four Provincial Math Assessment
On Wednesday and Thursday of this week, grade four students all across the Island will be participating in the Provincial Math Assessment. A pamphlet went home this past Friday in the agenda pocket with more information about the assessment.
Elementary Choir Practices
“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD!” Mrs. Barton is hosting a six week elementary choir club on Thursdays after school from 3:00 – 4:00. If you are willing to commit to the six week block, she would be glad to see you this coming Thursday! However, this is the last week in which Mrs. Barton can accept new members as they are practicing for the upcoming Grandparents’ Day celebration.
Grace Christian School EAL Program & Student Council invite you to their first International Potluck Dinner on October 6 at 5:30 PM. Families are asked to bring a dish or dessert to share that represents their family’s heritage. GCS will provide tea, coffee and cold drinks as students from around the world entertain us with their talent! For more information contact Mrs. Huizing. What a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the diversity of our students at GCS. Hope to see you all there!
Once again this year, students will have the opportunity to participate in the 2014 Fantastic Fall Saver Coupon Book campaign, as part of our school’s fundraising efforts. The money raised is necessary to allow for various educational and extra-curricular activities at GCS. This year, a portion of the funds raised will also be donated to the QEH Foundation. The booklets can be purchased for $10. Students are asked to return their sale forms and money on October 8 or 9. Coupon booklets will be sent home on Tuesday, October 14.
World Vision Coin Drive
Next week there will be a “no-longer-penny” drive to raise funds for World Vision. The school participates in this week-long event every year to support a worthy cause. Last year, money raised was sent to help the relief effort in the Philippines following the wake of destructive Typhoon Haiyan. I encourage students to reach out to those in need and donate their pocket change to help better the lives of others in the world.
Say cheese! School Picture Day is scheduled for next week on Thursday, October 9.
The Confederation Centre Children’s Library is running a Hackmatack Book Club. From September 2014 to May 2015, kids in Grades 4 to 6 will meet in the Children’s Library from 6:30 to 7:30 pm on the third Thursday of each month to discuss titles nominated for the 2015 Hackmatack Children’s Choice Award. In April members will participate in the voting process and help choose this year’s award winners!
