School is beginning to wind down, but there is much on the go during the last month.
On Tuesday, June 3, EPIC, the GCS girls’ cheer-leading group, will be performing for the elementary grades at 2:30. They will also be selling candy bags and cookies for $2.00 and hairbows for $4.00 to raise funds for next year’s cheer equipment. The group will be performing again in the evening at 6:00 for anyone who would like to come. These girls have worked hard on their routines and it will be exciting to see them show off what their effort has accomplished!
A Change to School Supplies
Previously, parents were provided a full list of school supplies to purchase for the following school year. Things are about to change for all elementary students!
Students are asked to provide their teacher for next year with a school supply fee of $25.00 to cover the majority of their supplies for the 2014-2015 school year. A full list of what this fee includes will be sent home in your child’s report card, as well as a short list of additional school supplies for you to purchase. These lists are also posted on the GCS website and can be found here: http://www.gracechristianschool.ca/resources/forms/
For who would like a quick peek at the list, these are some of the items the school supply fee for grade 3/4 with be covering:
- correcting pens (red)
- loose leaf notebook paper
- 2-pocket folders
- color coded duotangs
- graph paper
- glue sticks
- white glue
- white erasers
- 30 cm ruler (English & metric)
- 3 x 5 index cards
- homework agenda
- sticky notes
- whiteboard marker
As some of you have been wondering about the reasons behind this change, please know that cost of the supplies, if bought separately and not during sale times, would exceed the fee that we are requesting. This fee makes it possible for teachers to gather the exact supplies that they know the students will use, be able to buy in bulk, and perhaps save hard-working parents the hassle of shopping for a lot of items during the busy back-to-school season. Also, any excess funds after purchasing the items on the basic list will go directly into providing other supplies for the class that are not listed, such as materials for arts and crafts projects.
We would be most grateful to have these payments made in full by the end of the school year; however we are setting a target date of Monday, June 9, 2014 to collect the fees from elementary students who have already registered for the fall. Please send all money in a sealed envelope labelled with your child’s name and “School Supply Fee” and return it to your child’s teacher for next year. This money will not be collected in the office, and must be paid separately from your tuition payment.
Track and Field
I was very proud of all the students for their effort and the great team-spirit displayed at the Elementary Track and Field Meet last week. They “ran the race with endurance” and did their best to glorify God, along with cheering their hearts out. Check out some pictures of this event below.
