GCS Grades 3 and 4

The Adventures of Mrs. Bouter's Class

A Look at the Week Ahead – Sept. 23-27

on September 22, 2013

Hello all!

I hope you’re weekend was as refreshing as mine was! The LORD certainly blessed us with BEA-U-TI-FUL weather, hasn’t He?

A Recap of Last Week

Last week was a blast with the celebration of both Caleb and Simon’s birthdays, lots of learning about the different kinds of sentences, and the teaching of concepts in math like subtraction with borrowing and two-digit by two-digit multiplication. Plus, we had a great start to our spelling program. I would like to thank all of the parents for really tackling the new spelling activities with enthusiasm! These engaging spelling activities simply would not work without caring and invested parents helping out at home. Thank you!

Last week, we also had a wonderful time learning about some of the pieces of the Armour of God, including the Belt of Truth and the Breastplate of Righteousness. As part of the Breastplate of Righteousness, students learned the Ten Commandments and a “fingerplay” to help them remember what each of the commandments are. You may want to ask your child what he or she remembers about these standards that God put in His Word to demonstrate His holiness! You may have also noticed that I did NOT send home the memory verse that I had planned on giving. As such, I will be passing out that verse this coming week. I apologize if this caused confusion. In the busy-ness of the classroom, the memory verse once again became lost in the shuffle.

Scholastic Book Order

There were many forms that went home on Friday, including a Scholastic Book Order. Some of the students did not receive one, however, as there weren’t enough copies to go around. However, students who did not receive one have a sibling in another grade who should have brought one home. If you are interested in purchasing anything from this book order, it should be sent back to the school in the agenda pocket by Friday, September 27th. If you have any questions about the order, please contact Mrs. Perry.

Weekly Test Folders

This week your child will take home a weekly test folder containing graded tests and quizzes. This folder is due back the following day with the signature of a parent. I will be keeping all tests and quizzes in each student’s file for future reference. Test and quiz scores will be officially recorded on the school management website.

Reading at Home

Coming up this week, we will begin having reading homework from the Abeka readers. This will affect the grade three students more than the grade four students. The grade three students are expected to read the selections to themselves twice and to their parents once. Grade four students may only read to themselves but may choose to read to parents as well. Please ensure that your child takes care of these readers as lost or damaged books will need to be replaced at the expense of parents. I will likewise remind the students to be careful with their books and use them responsibly.
